01

Swiss prices, Swiss units

All costs in CHF. Electricity in Rp./kWh (the Swiss standard). Fuel in CHF/l. The baseline scenario uses the Swiss average profile: 15,000 km/yr, 20 Rp./kWh, 1.85 CHF/l petrol.

02

Wallbox break-even included

Home charging infrastructure (typically CHF 800–2,000 installed) is factored in as a one-time investment. The calculator shows exactly when your fuel savings pay it back.

Frequently asked questions

The calculator compares electricity costs, fuel costs, and the one-time wallbox investment. Maintenance, insurance, tyres, taxes, and vehicle purchase prices are shown separately in the Total Cost tab. Running costs only — no purchase price difference in the cost comparison.
Enter your total household electricity tariff including grid fees, levies, and VAT. This varies significantly by municipality — check your electricity bill. Swiss prices typically range from 18 to 35 Rp./kWh (2024). Some providers offer a separate, cheaper EV night tariff.
Not always, and the calculator is designed to show when it isn’t. At high electricity prices (above 35 Rp./kWh) and low mileage, the fuel savings may not offset the wallbox investment quickly. Very low annual mileage (under 5,000 km) generally makes the switch less compelling from a pure cost standpoint.
A standard Swiss home wallbox delivers 11 kW (3-phase 16A), charging a typical 60 kWh EV from 20% to 80% in about 3.3 hours. A regular socket (2.3 kW) takes over 15 hours for the same charge. Public fast chargers (50–350 kW) can add 100 km of range in 10–20 minutes.
With the Swiss average profile (15,000 km/yr, 20 Rp./kWh, petrol at CHF 1.85/l), annual fuel savings are around CHF 1,500–1,800. A CHF 1,200 wallbox (installed) breaks even within 8–10 months. Cantonal subsidies can further reduce this.
